GRANT COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) - The Grant County coroner has released the identity of a man whose body was found in a burning truck last week.

26-year-old Jeremy Overla died from blunt force trauma, according to a press release.

Donald Lamley II, 49, faces charges in the case. Police say he admitted to hiding in Overla's backseat and then hitting him in the head with a hammer.

Just before 10 a.m. Friday, Grant County dispatchers received a 911 phone about a vehicle fire in a field near County Road 1125 South and Wheeling Pike. Matthews Fire Department crews found a body in the vehicle.

The body in the truck was burned beyond recognition.

Hartford City police matched a missing person report from Blackford County to the truck.

Grant County police connected Lamley to the missing person and brought him in for an interview. Investigators say Lamley implicated himself, saying the murder took place in Blackford County and that he attempted to hide the crime and destroy evidence in Grant County.
