Former Muncie coach arrested after student makes sexual crime allegations

Muncie Community Schools officials handed the case over to police this week when the student came forward, but Nolan Brand's employment with the district ended back on October 14 after working there two and a half months.

MUNCIE, Ind. (WTHR) - A former Muncie Community Schools volleyball coach was arrested this week after a female student came forward with sexual allegations against him.

Muncie Community Schools officials handed the case over to police this week when the student came forward, but Nolan Brand's employment with the district ended back on October 14 after working there two and a half months.

District officials say Brand passed all required background checks when he was hired.

"The safety and well-being of our students is always the highest priority in our schools," Ana Pichardo, a spokesperson for the district said in a statement. "We are obviously shocked and dismayed by the allegations. We will continue to support all of our students and families while assisting investigators during their investigation."

Statement From Munciana Volleyball:

Upon learning of allegations of improper conduct by Nolan Brand, Munciana immediately severed all ties with him Monday morning.

Although the involved student is not, nor ever has been associated with the Munciana program, we share our community's view that her well-being is of paramount importance.
