Criminal investigation into Muncie double murder-suicide complete

No criminal charges will be filed since the only suspect killed himself after the crimes.

MUNCIE, Ind. (WTHR) — The Delaware County Sheriff's Department has completed the investigation into a double murder-suicide that happened in Muncie in April.

Police responded to a Muncie home April 28, 2019 and found three people dead inside: 58-year-old Casey Ritchie, his 14-year-old daughter Rylee Ritchie and her mother, 45-year-old Denise Miles.

"I want to stress that there are but two victims in this case," prosecuting attorney Eric Hoffman said.

Rylee Ritchie and Miles' deaths were ruled as homicides. Rylee was shot twice in the chest, while Miles was shot twice in the back. Casey Ritchie's death was ruled a suicide. He sustained one self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Evidence indicated the three died between April 24 and April 27.

In a statement, Hoffman said he would not comment or speculate on Casey's motive in the killings due to pending litigation.

Because Casey — the sole suspect — took his own life, there will be no charges filed and the criminal investigation is complete.
