COLUMBUS, Ind. (WTHR) — Police arrested a Columbus mother and another man for child neglect Sunday night.

Officers were doing a welfare check shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday at a house on Elm Street when they say Bradley Longworth walked up and told them he lived at the house, but an 11-month-old child who lived there was not home.

Police called the baby's mother, 28-year-old Sarah Coe of Columbus, and she admitted the child was in the house.

Officers went into the house and discovered an "overwhelming odor of animal urine and feces," according to a release from the Columbus Police Department.

Longworth, 38, and Coe were arrested and taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on a preliminary charge of Neglect of a Dependent, a Level 6 Felony.

The baby boy is now in custody of the Indiana Department of Child Services.
