1 dead on Indy's near south side

The Indianapolis Metro Police Department is investigating after a man has died on the city's near south side.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — The Indianapolis Metro Police Department is investigating after a man has died Tuesday morning on the city's near south side.

Officers were dispatched to the Garfield Terrace Apartments at the 2400 block of Shelby Street just after 3 a.m. on a report of a person shot.

Officers arrived and found the man unconscious inside the common area of the apartments.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Marion County Coroner's Office will determine the victim's exact cause of death after an autopsy.

Detectives do not believe the victim lived at the apartments and are still working to determine the cause of death.
