CAMBRIDGE, Ohio (WHIZ) - Many know that American veteran, astronaut and Senator John Glenn’s home town is New Concord, Ohio. But not many realize he was actually born in Cambridge, Ohio.

On Thursday the city of Cambridge unveiled a marker commemorating Cambridge as the birthplace of John Glenn.

The marker was a collaborative effort between the city of Cambridge and the John and Annie Glenn Museum.

The sign took about six months to plan and design after New York graduate student Adam Sackowitz realized there was nothing to honor Cambridge’s role in John Glenn's story.

The sign can be seen on State Route 209 also known as Southgate Parkway off of Interstate 70.
