INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — The Mapleton-Fall Creek Community Development Corporation said it is moving forward with a $60 million redevelopment project. It will include housing, commercial units, and retail food establishments.

The Board of Zoning Appeals has approved a variance for the first phase of the project, a 48-unit multi-family apartment building to be built at Central Avenue and 29th Street. It will be for people who earn 20 percent or less than the median income.

Mapleton-Fall Creek Community Development Corporation CEO Leigh Riley Evans said the neighborhood is “heating up pretty quickly.”

“We want to make sure everyone can continue to be able to afford to live here,” Evans said.

Other phases of the project will include single family homes sold at market rate.

Project partners include The Community Builders and Majora Carter Group.

Construction on phase one is set to begin in June 2020.
