New app for women living alone projects boyfriend on curtain

TOKYO, Japan (WTHR) - A Japanese company hopes to make women who live alone feel safer with what's being called "shadow boyfriends" made to scare off potential intruders.

A Japanese apartment management company created a product called "Man on the Curtain" designed to give single women an additional sense of security.

The system projects the shadowy figure of a man behind window curtains, doing things like throwing punches to make would-be criminals think twice before breaking in.

Using their smartphone, users can choose from a dozen different scenarios that show their "shadow boyfriend" boxing, doing karate, swinging a baseball bat, among other things.

"Man on the Curtain" is still in the prototype stage.

The company says it realizes some people may have doubts about how effective this unusual security system may be.

But it says it plans to keep making improvements and to eventually commercialize and sell the product.
