Near northeast side preschool evacuated as fire, hazmat crews work at manufacturing plant

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — A fire at Major Tool & Machine has led to a a dozen preschool students being relocated to an IMPD site.

Indianapolis Fire Department hazmat crews responded just after 8 a.m. to the manufacturing plant where a chemical inside a barrel was creating fumes and vapor.

The plant is at the intersection of 19th and Sheldon streets.

Twelve students at the Zion Hill Baptist Church nearby had to be relocated to an IMPD site at 42nd Street and College Avenue as the hazmat crews worked with the plant's personnel to get the chemical under control.

There were no injuries in the incident. No one was inside the plant at the time.
