PORT CANAVERAL, Florida (WTHR) - The United States Navy commissioned the USS Indiana Saturday.

The Indiana is the Navy's newest Virginia Class submarine.

U.S. Representative Jim Banks of Indiana was the principal speaker at Saturday morning's ceremony.

Diane Donald, wife of retired Admiral Kirkland Donald who served as director of Naval Nuclear Propulsion from 2004 to 2012, gave the Navy's traditional order to “man our ship and bring her to life!”

Named in 2012, the submarine is the fourth vessel to carry the USS Indiana name, and the third to be commissioned.

It is the 16th Virginia Class Submarine.

The last Indiana was a battleship that served in World War II.
