AUSTIN, Texas (WTHR) - America's oldest living veteran "needs everybody's prayers" as he battles pneumonia, his family said.

Richard Overton turned 112 years old in May. Family members said he went to the hospital last Wednesday to be treated for pneumonia, but hasn't been able to come home.

"He needs everybody's prayers," Overton's cousin Volma Overton Jr. told KXAN-TV. He noted the last time Overton was hospitalized in August, prayers worked.

Overton lives in the same Austin, Texas home he built 72 years ago. A GoFundMe page has raised more than $450,000 to help pay for his care so that he can stay in his home. This summer, someone drained Overton's bank account after obtaining his personal information.

Overton served in World War II, including service at Pearl Harbor shortly after the Japanese attack on Dec. 7, 1941.
