WASHINGTON (WTHR) — A special ceremony was held Wednesday to rename a street outside of the NASA headquarters in honor of the "Hidden Figures."

The street is meant to be a tribute to Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary W. Jackson, who contributed to NASA’s scientific work in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.

The 2016 "Hidden Figures" movie portrayed some of the plight the women faced as they worked for NASA.

Family members of the three women were on hand for the ceremony.
