CARMEL, Ind. (WTHR) — Carmel police say a pedestrian is dead after getting hit by a dump truck.

Police have identified the victim as 35-year-old Adam Bisesi, a seventh grade teacher at Mt. Vernon Middle School.

The school said it will provide counseling and support to students and staff in the days to come.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. Tuesday on the U.S. 31 northbound ramp to 146th and 151st streets.

Police say the Bisesi walked in the road and the truck driver couldn't stop in time to avoid him.

The Mt. Vernon School Corporation released a statement on Bisesi's passing:

"He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. The staff and family at Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family, as well as his friends, students, fellow teachers and support staff."

“I just know what he did for my kids. I know what impact he had on my children and I am so grateful for that,” said Tabatha Hart, whose daughter was in one of Mr. Bisesi’s class, her son also had him as a teacher two years ago.

Hart says news spread quickly on social media about Bisesi’s passing. She said he was admired by students, parents and other teachers.

“A lot of parents and students are going to be in a loss with that because he wasn’t just one or two kids or a classroom. It was so many kids that he connected to, so that’s going to be hard for all of them for a while,” said Hart.
