"Monumental Yoga" brings hundreds to Monument Circle

Hundreds of Hoosiers celebrated the Summer Solstice by getting fit.

At the center of the state…Hoosiers came to center themselves.

Nearly half of the bustling circle filled up - not with cars - but with people Saturday afternoon.

In this crowd of hundreds, Janet Releford brought her mat to take it all in first hand.

“I've been doing yoga for about two months and I just wanted to experience something that was calming and peaceful.” She said.

The longest day of the year proved to be the perfect opportunity for just that.

On a sunny day, calming music played as instructors tried to push people to their limits.

Social media served a major role in promoting this second annual event.

“This is my first time coming out and I heard about it through Facebook so I was like ‘Let me go out and experience it and do my best.’”

And as hundreds of strangers join together in unison through motion, they leave the crossroads of America less tense.

“I feel rejuvenated, more peaceful, more calm, I just feel great.”

This is the second annual "Monumental Yoga" event at the circle.  It is Indianapolis' largest outdoor yoga event.
