What's the Deal?: MLK holiday weekend sales

If you didn't get everything you wanted for Christmas, there are some sales to check out now, and others to ignore.

INDIANAPOLIS — It's the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, and as with any holiday weekend, we know stores are going to have sales.

But are these discounts actually any good?

If you didn't get everything you wanted for Christmas, there are some sales to check out, and others to ignore.

So here's what you should consider, according to offers.com:

What to buy

  • Winter clothing - If your kids are still growing, consider buying next year's coat now.
  • Linens - This weekend is also a good time to look at buying towels and sheets.
  • Fitness gear and beauty products - Look for liter bottles of shampoo and conditioner, as well as moisturizers and face creams.

What to skip

  • Televisions - They'll be cheaper around the Super Bowl.
  • Jewelry
  • Mattresses
  • Small appliances

Retail expert Shannon Dwyer of offers.com said, "We do track prices in seeing what has historically happened. And we have a lot of knowledge on that, based on past years' experience."

If you're not sure about the price, use the browser extension Honey. It will provide a price history to help you make a better decision.
