Mom throws gender reveal party on Facebook after son comes out as transgender


LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WTHR) — Gender reveal parties are all the rage, but rarely are they for a 20-year-old man.

Heather Green made it annual tradition to post photos to Facebook on her child's birthday. This year, she had a different idea.

Her son, Adrian Brown, came out to her as transgender in September. So for Adrian's birthday on January 29, Green shared photos from her family's gender reveal party - 20 years after she gave birth.

"I mean my kids are used to me coming up with these harebrained schemes all the time," Green told WAVE-TV. "He was like, 'You're crazy, but, yes of course,' which was a fair reaction."

Her birthday photo gallery was filled with new mom joy, complete with a faux baby bump, cigar and blue balloons, blue confetti and Adrian swaddled in an "It's A Boy" blanket with an oversized teddy bear.

A week later, her post had been shared by more than 15,000 people with support coming in for Adrian from around the world.

"I thought this was sort of a struggle I had to do by myself," Adrian said. "It's really heartwarming to see there are so many people out there who share the same story that I do and are so supportive of a complete stranger. And it gives me a lot of hope."
