(WTHR) — Brittany Webster of Missouri is apologizing to her community this week after her mother faked her death and held a memorial service.

She thinks her mother's motive was to get money.

"I apologize for her actions," said Webster. "It's messed up, but she ended up scamming you guys out of money."

Webster says she grew up with her grandparents, three hours away from where her mother held the fake funeral service in Ferguson, Missouri.

She says her mother told people there that her daughter died in a car crash. She even went as far as having an obituary published and gave a speech at the funeral.

The church claims it had no idea that it was all a sham.

"My brother actually died and here my mom is faking my death, Webster said. "You know I was upset, I was angry, but more than anything I was sad."

Webster explained that her mother has a history of drug abuse, and she's worried because she has no idea where her mother is now.

She's asking anyone who may know where her mother is to call Ferguson police.
