INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - On Valentine's Day, Indiana's chapter of the Alzheimer's Association hosted a Memory Cafe for people living with the disease.

The Memory Cafe is an activity-based program for people living with early-stage Alzheimer's or dementia.

On Friday, they made cookie jar mixes.

The activities are crucial, not only for those with Alzheimer's but for their caregivers because they can enjoy the company of others.

"The local Alzheimer's group is a wonderful organization that provides all kinds of support and activities," said Steve Swanson

"And you think of all those years, people who had Alzheimer's that really didn't have this kind of outlet," said Mary Tarbell. "It's just fantastic."

Steve and Mary both had parents who died of Alzheimer's. They've been married for 42 years.
