INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - People living in Indy's Latino community got surprise visits Thursday by two of the city's top public safety officials.

Mayor Joe Hogsett and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Chief Bryan Roach went door-to-door in IMPD's southwest district.

They visited several Latino-owned businesses to shake hands and listen to any concerns they may have about public safety.

Chief Roach used to work in this district, and says he has always kept an open dialogue there.

Today's street walk.. was designed to make sure neighbor feels welcome and safe.

"I think people for the most part today have been responsive and are glad that the mayor and chief are out and available and trying to hear their concerns," Mayor Hogsett said.

Chief Roach says he plans to do the same neighborhood visits in other districts around the city and has invited the mayor to join him.
