Marion store clerk attacked by man with hammer

MARION, Ind. (WTHR) - Police in Marion are searching for the man who attacked a store clerk with a hammer during an armed robbery.

Surveillance cameras captured the man walking into a convenience store on Washington Street Saturday with a hammer in his hand and mask over his face.

The clerk told police he saw the man in the parking lot and tried to hold the door closed, but the robber forced it open, knocked him down and hit him with the hammer. The man got away with cash, candy, cigarettes, and lighters.

The clerk was taken to a local hospital for injuries to his hands.
