INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Marion County hospitals are resuming standard visitor policies as influenza activity in the area declines.

The Marion County Health Department announced Monday the county's hospitals would be lifting temporary visitor restrictions that were put in place in early January. The restrictions were enacted to protect patients, staff and other visitors during a period of high flu activity.

The health department said the percentage of patients visiting emergency departments in Marion County with influenza-like illnesses dropped significantly last week.

Even with restrictions lifted, health officials say it's important for anyone with flu-like symptoms to avoid visiting a patient in a hospital and to stay home from school or work until symptoms clear up.
