Man wanted for Boone County sexual assault takes his own life

BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) — The Boone County Sheriff's Department said Tippecanoe County sexual assault suspect Paul Etter took his own life during a standoff Thursday afternoon.

Police say Lebanon police officers on patrol spotted a truck stolen out of Tippecanoe County. As officers approached the truck, police say the driver, identified as Etter, displayed a weapon.

The standoff took place in the area of State Road 39 and 300 North.

Police said Etter, 55, shot himself twice and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Tippecanoe County Prosecutor's Office says Etter abducted and assaulted a woman changing a tire over the weekend.
