Man named Tupac Shakur arrested on assault, drug charges in Tennessee

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WTHR) — A Tennessee man named Tupac Shakur is in jail after a run-in with police who were after him for active warrants.

The Johnson City Police Department arrested Shakur, 40, Saturday. They responded to a call regarding his active warrants. When they got there, they saw him leaving in a car.

Police eventually caught up with him and tried to take him into custody. That's when police say grabbed a knife from his waistband and turned towards them, but officers were able to get him to the ground.

According to a news release, Shakur was in possession of a syringe and multiple baggies of meth.

Shakur is now facing charges for aggravated assault, resisting arrest, simple possession of meth and unlawful drug paraphernalia.
