INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – A man from Alabama has finished his road-trip to show appreciation to veterans across the country.

Rodney Smith Jr. set out to mow the lawn of a veteran in each state.

That got a little hard though when it came to Alaska and Hawaii.

Smith said Delta airlines reached out to him and offered to cover his entire trip to his last two states, Alaska and Hawaii.

In Indiana, he stopped at the home of Donald Bowman.

"My way of giving back is with a lawn mower, so I'm mowing lawns for veterans," said Smith.

At each stop, Smith gives the veteran a shirt and a note to show his appreciation. Then he asks them to sign his lawn mower.

Smith's hope is to to encourage more people to give back to those who have already given so much.
