Melchi's wife, Sarah, told Eyewitness News her husband, who is from Plano, Illinois, was at the race with friends and camped out Sunday night.

His friends headed out after they woke up Monday morning, but when Adam, wasn't home by noon and didn't answer his phone, Sarah called police and learned police had found his body.

Police said Adam's death is believed to be of natural causes and not a result of suspicious or criminal activity. The coroner will determine if the heat or alcohol contributed to Adam's death.

Sarah said her husband was a huge race fan and had been attending the Indy 500 for 21 years. He told her his wishes were to have his ashes spread at the track and one day for them to have a brick with their names on it.

She said her husband was a big fan of Team Penske and though he wanted Helio Castroneves to win his fourth Indy 500, he was happy that Will Power took the checkered flag.

Melchi was the father of five children, including two kids and a stepchild he has with Sarah. He also had two children from a previous relationship.

"He loved his kids so much and me," Sarah Melchi told Eyewitness News.

The couple works for School District 131 in Illinois, where they met. His wife said he loved the students where he worked and they loved him.

A longtime friend of Adam's started a GoFundMe account to help support his family.

"He was a caring, humble man that would have given his last dollar and time to help a friend in need," Josh Hartman wrote on the page.
