Man found dead in Albany apartment fire

ALBANY, Ind. (WTHR) – Delaware County authorities are investigating after a man was found dead in an apartment fire Sunday evening.

First responders were called to an apartment in a building in the 600 block of East Oak Street around 5 p.m.

Chief Deputy Jeff Stanley said a deceased person was found in the apartment.

An autopsy has been scheduled Monday at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

In addition to Albany police and sheriff's deputies, an official with the Indiana State Fire Marshal's office and a member of Delaware County Coroner Rick Howell's staff were called to the scene.
