Man dies after ice fishing accident in Tippecanoe County

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WTHR) – Two men are safe after falling into freezing cold water while ice fishing.

It happened at a pond near West Lafayette Wednesday.

The Tippecanoe Sheriff's Office says 45-year-old Brian Kennedy was able to get out of the water on his own but 63-year-old Thomas Watkins was trapped.

Kennedy ran to a nearby house to get help.

A water rescue team was able to get Watkins out of the pond.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
