Man in critical condition after shooting on Indy's near north side

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — IMPD is investigating a shooting on the city's near north side that left a man in critical condition Wednesday night.

Just after 11 p.m., officers were headed to the 1800 block of Brookside Avenue on reports of shots fired. As they were driving, they heard shots being fired and were trying to figure out where they were coming from.

Dispatch was alerted to a person being shot near East 16th and Broadway streets near North College Avenue.

When they arrived, officers found a 20-year-old man suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Further investigation revealed the two incidents were related.

Police said the man was in a vehicle near the 1800 block of Brookside Avenue and had a disagreement with some people. According to police, shots were fired, hitting the car he was in multiple times, with one of the shots hitting him.

Police said he then drove to the area near East 16th and Broadway streets.

The man was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.
