Man arrested in connection to 2 Waynesville arson fires

WAYNESVILLE, Ind. (WTHR) – A man has been arrested after admitting to intentionally setting two homes on fire Saturday morning.

The Wayne Township volunteer fire department and Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence fire in the 2700 block of East Main Cross in Waynesville around 6:58 a.m. Saturday.

When crews arrived at the scene they found 33-year-old Daniel Burton.

While speaking with Burton, crews spotted a second home, about a block away on East Main Cross, was on fire as well.

Firefighters were able to put out both house fires.

During the investigation, Burton admitted to law enforcement that he set both fires and he was taken into custody.

Burton was arrested on one count of arson. The investigation is still ongoing.
