Looking for the extreme, Weather Channel's Cantore chose Indy on Friday

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – The Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore chases storms for a living.

So when Cantore chose Friday’s storm in central Indiana for his series of Weather Channel reports, many Hoosiers must have paused to contemplate just what Mother Nature had in mind for the area. After all, it’s the extremes that generally garner Cantore’s attention.

Cantore told Eyewitness News that when it came to the worst weather conditions in the country on Friday morning, Indianapolis prevailed over points south.

“We’ve got sleet and freezing rain all the way to Arkansas and Louisiana this morning, so this is a big deal,” Cantore told us. “There were so many places to go with this one, but I thought for the morning shot, we talked about it and thought that Indianapolis would be kind of a great spot.”

And Indy didn’t disappoint. Ice began accumulating on roads in time for the morning traffic rush and led to many school and business closings. And those closings might have been the only downside for Cantore’s morning.

“Sometimes when you come to town to cover weather weather events it’s like, you get done and say ‘let’s go have a great meal.’ Uh, oh well, nothing’s open,” he said with a smile.
