GREENWOOD, Ind. (WTHR) - A veterans memorial that's been in the works for more than a decade is finally happening.

The Greenwood Police Department says the groundbreaking ceremony for the memorial is happening April 29 at 4:00 p.m. near the intersection of Surina Way and Meridian Street.

They had originally considered building the memorial near Freedom Park and even held a groundbreaking for it in 2012, but it was never built.

Now it's going to be part of improvements the city is making to the downtown area.
