INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – We've already seen more than 100 homicides in Indy this year and community members are sick of the violence.

The Church of Glory on the northeast side held its sixth annual "victory over violence" community day Saturday.

There were activities for kids including horseback riding and face painting.

The whole event was about bringing people together.

"A lot of times you're isolated, like when you're in your home," said Donald Edwards. "So when you come out and see that we are fighting against this same thing and there's violence, and violence doesn't have to just be fists it can be mental, it can be verbal, so we just come out here to encourage people to show love to each other and put each other in each other's shoes."

The event started to help bring hope to the neighborhood after IMPD officer Perry Renn was shot just down the street from the church a few years ago.
