INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — It feels like an unlikely partnership: Jiffy Lube and art.

The car service company has become the backdrop for Indianapolis artists to paint.

It started back in 2016. A Jiffy Lube in Broad Ripple was getting tagged, so the company came up with the idea to paint a mural to try and deter graffiti artists.

After that first mural was up, Steve Sanner, the owner of Jiffy Lube Indiana, said an idea began to grow. Now, in partnership with the Arts Council of Indianapolis, they are working their way toward 14 murals across central Indiana.

Selecting the artist for each mural has become a competitive process.

"Last year, we had 20 artists apply for six murals," Sanner said. "This year we had 65. Every artist in town wants to paint a Jiffy Lube wall."

Kyle Ragsdale completed his mural on the east side of Indianapolis on Friday. He said it's nice to have art everywhere, not just downtown.
