Lions kill suspected rhino poachers on game reserve

SOUTH AFRICA (WTHR) — A pride of lions killed suspected poachers at a game reserve in South Africa.

A field guide noticed what appeared to be human remains on site. An anti-poaching unit also found a gun, gloves, wire cutters and remnants of a backpack with food and water, according to Nick Fox, the owner of Sibuya Game Reserve.

“There seems to be clothing for three people,” Fox told Agence France-Presse. “I've not heard of it before in our area.”

Other items found include a high-powered rifle with a silencer and an ax — both items used with poachers hunting rhinos.

The three people reportedly walked into an area where six lions lived.

The reserve's veterinarian staff temporarily tranquilized the lions so they could examine the area.
