LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WTHR) - A woman is under arrest in Lafayette, accused of stealing a car and kidnapping a child.

Police think it all happened after Jessilyn Gardiner got in a fight with a woman she'd been living with about giving her a ride. They say the 33-year-old stole Stephanie Brooke's car with Brooke's two-year-old daughter in the backseat after Brooke decided not to give her a ride.

Police say Gardiner even hit Brooke as she drove away.

Gardiner's father then called police when his daughter arrived at his house with the child. Police say the little girl was unharmed.

Gardiner fled the scene before officers arrived, but was apprehended by a K-9 with the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department. She was arrested on charges including kidnapping, criminal confinement, battery with a deadly weapon and auto theft.
