Lafayette Automotive Group responds to racial discrimination lawsuit

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WTHR) - The Law Firm representing The Mike Raisor Automotive Group against a federal lawsuit calls the accusations untrue.

Attorney Charles Vaughn released a statement Friday saying:

Accusations of racial discrimination have been recently been made aganist The Mike Raisor Automotive Group. The Mike Raisor Automotive Group and the Raisor family unequivocally denies these accusations. As is stated in The Mike Raisor Automotive Group Handbook: "MIKE RAISOR AUTOMOTIVE GROUP does not discriminate in employment opportunities or practices on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or any other characteristic protected by law."

Any suggestion that the Mike Raisor Automotive Group or the Raisor family racially discriminates is simply false.

The Mike Raisor Automotive Group and the Raisor family will vigorously defend against accusations it believes to be untrue.

A former sales manager at a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Lafayette sued the business for racial discrimination earlier this week.

The lawsuit against his former employer alleges he was "fired in retaliation for complaining about the owner’s repeated use of the N-word, including boasting about systematically overcharging African American customers for vehicles, referring to it as 'n***er scalping.'"

According to the attorney, their client immediately took offense and reported it to Mercedes-Benz of North America. However, after reporting the racial slurs, the complaint alleges he was fired for insubordination.

According to the lawsuit, Jeffrey Turner had been subjected to a hostile work environment because of his race.

"His race was a regular subject of unwelcome verbal harassment, being referred to as the 'favorite n***er.' He was also a target for anger over unrelated racial issues," the attorney states in a press release.
