Kokomo police identify 1 dead, 2 injured in overnight shooting

KOKOMO, Ind. (WTHR) - Police are investigating a shooting death overnight north of downtown Kokomo.

According a statement from Kokomo Police, officers were called just after 4:20 a.m. to the 100 block of West Elm near the Tom Thumb Tavern.

When officers arrived, they found 36 year-old Mutee Burnett lying in the roadway with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers also found 43-year-old Angela Burnett suffering from a gunshot wound to her foot and 28-year-old Desiree James with a gunshot wound to her lower leg.

Both victims were treated at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. Their injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

The Kokomo Police Department and the Howard County Coroner’s Office are investigating.

Investigators have learned that several people were present when the shooting occurred, and are asking anyone with information to contact the Kokomo Police Department.
