INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – Dozens of teens on the east side got the chance to check out some summer jobs on Saturday morning.

Saturday was the first time the New Direction Church on 38th Street hosted a job fair like this.

Pastor Kenneth Sullivan Jr. says they wanted to encourage the youth in their east side community to stay out of trouble and try to earn some "back to school" money. He says he wants to help them work toward something productive and positive.

"We just believe that if children have an opportunity and teens have an opportunity to take some different career paths, we could help direct them in that direction versus them getting caught up in some of the pitfalls that so many of our teens fall into during the summer," said Sullivan.

Several community organizations set up tables so teens could talk with them about the possibilities.

This was geared toward youth from 12 to 24 years old.

If you missed the job fair but still want to try to get involved, you can contact the New Direction Church.
