INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - An Indiana State Police K-9 is getting some extra protection more than four months after getting shot in the line of duty.

A non-profit based in Massachusetts is donating the body armor to K-9 Apache. The protective vest will help keep the police dog safe from bullet and stab wounds after he survived a scary encounter last fall.

K-9 Apache was hit in the neck during a shootout in October on the northeast side. He spent several weeks at home recovering, but has since returned to full duty with his handler.
