Inmate found dead in cell; foul play not suspected

PENDLETON, Ind. (WTHR) - An inmate serving a life sentence for numerous offenses including murder was found dead in his cell Wednesday.

Michael Andrew Gibson, 44, was found unresponsive in his cell, and first responders were unable to revive him.

Authorities could not immediately confirm the cause of his death, but said foul play is not suspected at this point. Madison County Coroner Danielle Noone told our partners at the Herald Bulletin he was not sharing a cell with anyone.

Pendleton Correctional Facility’s Investigations and Intelligence Office is collaborating with the Indiana State Police to investigate Gibson's death. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
