IndyCar's Robert Wickens gets back in the driver's seat

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – We have been watching IndyCar driver Robert Wickens for months as he works to recover from a serious crash that broke his neck and spinal cord.

And now he's getting back in the driver's seat of a car!

Wickens made the announcement on Twitter Monday.

He'll be driving in the parade lap before the Honda Indy Toronto race this weekend.

Wickens will be driving a car with hand controls made just for him and he says he'll be driving as fast as he can.

"I'm just so excited. I can't wait to get a helmet on and go around in an amazing car," said Wickens. "And I get to drive this little sweetheart over there, around for the parade lap, which is going to be fantastic because she's been my chauffer for the last little while and I think to share that moment is going to be really special."

The lady driving him in the video is Wickens' fiance.

He had previously set a goal to be able to dance at their wedding in September.
