Indy Parks kicks off free summer meals program

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Indy parks is making sure kids get a healthy lunch all summer.

The meals are free and available at more than 100 parks and community centers.

Mayor Hogsett kicked off the program Friday at Ellenberger park.

He helped served meals to kids at summer camp.

"Without this program 100,000 kids go without meal during summer so really important way to get nutritious food to our young people to keep them healthy throughout the summer," Indy Parks Director Linda Broadfoot said.

In the 5 years since this program started, Indy Parks has served more than two million meals...providing almost seven million dollars in free food.
