INDOT to close I-465 on southeast side for 2 weeks Friday night

465 closure begins tonight
Detours to take this weekend

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Another major interstate closure on the southeast side of Indianapolis will start tonight.

INDOT is shutting down southbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 465 between I-70 and I-65. It will be closed until Sept. 21 so crews can make repairs to the interstate.

The closure will begin at 9 p.m. Friday.

The official detour INDOT recommends follows I-70 and I-65 through downtown Indianapolis. Through traffic should follow I-465 northbound and eastbound to avoid delays due to congestion.

Traffic heading west on I-74 into the metro area is encouraged to use the posted detour or follow I-465 north or east to get around the construction.

INDOT suggested the following city streets for local traffic that normally uses the southbound and westbound lanes of I-465:

North-South routes

  • Mitthoeffer Rd.
  • Post Rd.
  • Franklin Rd.
  • Shadeland Ave.
  • Arlington Ave.
  • Sherman Dr.

East-West routes

  • Southport Rd.
  • Thompson Rd.
  • Raymond St.
  • English Ave./Brookville Rd.
