Indianapolis woman killed in car-train crash in Ingalls

An Indianapolis woman was killed in a car-train crash in Ingalls Wednesday night.

INGALLS, Ind. (WTHR) - An Indianapolis woman was killed in a crash involving a car and train in Ingalls Wednesday night.

The Madison County Sheriff's Department reports the crash happened around 8:50 p.m. at N. Alfonte Street and SR 67 in Ingalls.

Preliminary investigation shows the 30-year-old woman was driving south on N. Alfonte Street when she drove around the railroad crossing arm and got stuck on the tracks. Witnesses told police the woman got out of her car to try to escape the oncoming train, but both she and her vehicle were struck by the train.

The identity of the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, has not yet been released, pending notification of her family.
