Indiana WWII veteran who asked for cards for 100th birthday has died

SCOTTSBURG, Ind. (WTHR) — An Indiana WWII veteran who received thousands of cards on his 100th birthday has died.

Bethel Killman turned 100 years old on March 17, 2019. He died on Friday, May 17.

In March, Killman and his family requested people from all over send the then soon-to-be 100-year-old birthday cards. He received more than 20,000 cards according to WLWT. A month before, he had been diagnosed with a heart valve problem and was given five months to live.

According to family member, Steven Phillips, Killman's visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday May 20. The funeral will immediately follow at Collins Funeral Home.
