Indiana DCS director hands in resignation to Gov. Holcomb

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - The director of the state's Department of Child Services is stepping down.

Governor Eric Holcomb's office says DCS Director Mary Beth Bonaventura told the governor she plans to resign, effective December 27. Holcomb the search for a new director has already begun.

"I am grateful to Director Bonaventura for her service at the Department of Child Services over the past five years. She has demonstrated unwavering commitment to keeping Hoosier children safe and has led this important state agency in the midst of a growing opioid epidemic that has impacted so many families," Holcomb said in a statement Friday evening.

Bonaventura was appointed to lead the Department of Child Services by then-Governor Mike Pence in January 2013.
