(WTHR) – An Indiana State University football player is getting some national attention after an appearance on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show'.

Jake Bain spoke with Ellen about his decision to come out just a year ago at a school assembly.

He also talked with Ellen about the process he went through as he decided to attend ISU.

"Even before I committed there I talked with the coach about my sexuality and that I wanted to be openly gay and he assured me from the very beginning that I was going to be accepted by the community at Indiana State and that my teammates were going to treat me just like anybody else on the team," said Bain.

As you likely know, Ellen loves to surprise her guests but she didn't surprise Jake since NCAA rules don't allow him to accept gifts.

Instead, she surprised his partner with a seven day trip to Fiji, saying maybe he'd take Jake with him.
