INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Most people don't think about the person on the other end of the phone when they call 911 but are glad they are there.

April is national 911 month and April 14-20 is National Tele-Communicator Week.

Frequently overlooked, dispatch operators are the first person you reach during a crisis situation.

The 911 call center in Marion County has answered more than 245,623 emergency and non-emergency calls so far in 2019.

Governor Eric Holcomb issued a proclamation declaring the week of April 14 - 20, 2019 as "Public Safety Tele-communicator Week."
