INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - A lawyer for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in stepping out of the office and onto the open road to the site of the last Verizon IndyCar Race of the season.

IMS senior Corporate Counsel Jimmie McMIllan is riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle for 35 hours and 2,255 miles from the Speedway to Sonoma, California.

McMillan is a long-time United Way volunteer, and he is using the ride to kick off a United Way 2017 fund-raising campaign.

"The IMS goal this year is $63,000, but with this first challenge, all of their leadership has agreed to participate and really start their campaign off on the right foot. So we are really excited that somebody like Jimmie has really taken the leadership at IMS to the next level," said Adrian Young, United Way.

The final IndyCar race of the season will be Sunday at 3:30 at the Sonoma Raceway.
