INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Two IMPD officers went above and beyond to help a cold, hungry dog who was abandoned on the east side.

They found the pup shivering in the cold near 10th and Lasalle.

After putting him on a leash, they fed him a slice of pizza from their own lunch.

Indianapolis Animal Care Services eventually took the dog to the shelter where he can be cared for properly.

IMPD wants it to be a reminder for all pet owners to bring their animals inside when the temperatures drop. It's required by City-County ordinance: when it's below 20-degrees or there's a wind chill advisory, you have to bring your pets indoors.
